Our Christmas Hamper Project works to provide a hamper of essential food items along with some Christmas treats to individuals and families in Basingstoke.
Working with over 160 partnering agencies, we receive hamper referrals from across the whole community.
Each year it is a joy to see the community coming together to support those who might otherwise go without and over the years we have loved having so many individuals, companies, churches and other groups involved in the Basingstoke Christmas Hamper Project.
Throughout December volunteers wrap, pack and deliver hampers across Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.
Over the last few years Festival Place have kindly provided a unit which we turn into our hamper hub for December. This year we will have a new home for our Hamper Hub, to be revealed!
Volunteers join us from the community and local businesses to spend a morning or afternoon at the hub putting the hampers together. Once packed, hampers are delivered by volunteers and Churches in time for Christmas.
How to get involved
Donate hamper items or organise a Christmas collection
If you are holding a collection, do make use of our Christmas Hamper Project Poster 2025 and ‘Christmas Shopping Lists 2025‘ to share with your group the items we need.
We usually receive more of some items than others. If you are unsure what you would like to donate, contact us at admin@basingstoke.foodbank.org.uk and we can let you know if there is anything we are particularly short of!
Once you are ready, drop off your donations at our warehouse (address below), or any of our usual supermarket and community drop off locations.
Donate a whole hamper
To make a Christmas hamper, take an ordinary cardboard box and wrap it in Christmas Paper, leaving the top open.
Fill it with items for either a small, medium or large hamper, use this list for the items and quantities needed for each size.
- Small hampers for 1-2 people
- Medium hampers for 3-4 people
- Large hampers for 5+ people
If you would prefer, you could buy a hamper bundle straight from our online give today store and it will be delivered directly to us!
When donating a whole hamper make sure you leave it unsealed so we can check the contents, top up any missing items and add our food bank Christmas card.
If you are an organisation or group who plan to donate multiple hampers, please email Ruth at admin@basingstoke.foodbank.org.uk with an estimated number of hampers so we can arrange the drop off and keep these in mind when organising our hamper deliveries. Please remember that these will need to come to us unsealed so we can check the contents.
Volunteer
If you wish to volunteer at our Hamper Hub, there are many roles available, from wrapping, to packing, organising and delivering, there is something for everyone!
We will be open Monday to Saturday throughout December, with two daily shifts, 10am-1pm and 1.30pm-4.30pm.
This year we will be in a NEW location! We are very excited about this and will provide an update as soon as we have the details confirmed. We have moved the opening date of our sign-up form back by a couple of days to ensure we are able to provide this information before you sign up.
Due to the popularity of this project, volunteers will be able to sign up for one shift only. The sign up form will be live here from 30th October.
Once we have received your response, we will send an email confirmation with your session details.
If you are wishing to volunteer as a group, please note that each shift is made up of a number of specific roles which you will need to choose on sign-up.
If your group is larger than 6, you will need to volunteer over separate shifts. To do this, please submit one booking request per shift request.
(Printable copies of the volunteer form can be provided on request by emailing hampersvolunteers@basingstoke.foodbank.org.uk)
Please be aware that we can only accommodate volunteers aged 16 if accompanied by an adult. We are unable to allow children under 16 into the hamper hub.
This is a popular activity so we are only able to accept volunteers who have booked their slot.
Financial donation
Making a financial donation is a great way to help us ensure we can continue to keep this project going!
- £7 provides Christmas cake, pudding and custard for one hamper
- £11 helps cover the savoury items in a medium hamper
- £27 funds a small hamper
- £38 funds a medium hamper
- £49 funds a large hamper
If you would like to donate specifically to our hamper project you can donate shopping vouchers which will allow us to top up on items we are most short of. Or you can donate as normal via our donate page and send an email to admin@basingstoke.foodbank.org.uk to let us know your donation is for the hamper project.
